Head of Buying (12 months Maternity Cover)

We’re looking for an experienced professional to lead our global Buying Team, which is responsible for managing our product range and commercial relationships with our international stock suppliers and mills.

This role reports directly into the Chief Retail Officer and will work closely with the rest of the Leadership Team to drive the company’s Retail strategy.  This is a full-time maternity cover role for 12 months, based in London or New York. 

 

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Lead and develop a growing team of Buyers 
  • Directly own strategic supplier accounts
  • Set the commercial strategy for our relationships with our stock supplier base, including negotiating payment terms, discounts, rebates and promotional collaboration, as well as supplier compliance 
  • Play an integral role in developing our immediate and long-term private label sourcing strategy, working directly with the CRO
  • Leverage deep dive analysis to lead on cross functional projects resulting in meaningful change and improvements
  • Be responsible and accountable for the entire team’s success/failure through measurable targets. Set internal team targets and key results
  • Work cross-functionally to set the sourcing strategy for semi annual sales and promo calendar by region to achieve revenue targets
  • Execute the product range strategy across a variety of craft categories
  • Deliver product margin goals through cost price negotiations
  • Prioritize the pipeline of new products/suppliers, in collaboration with marketing

 

Who you are:

  • A natural leader with a keen attention to detail, who also keeps the big picture in mind
  • An experienced people manager (2+ years) who is readily available to support, provide feedback (both negative & positive) and lead by example.
  • A sourcing all-star, with 4+ years of experience sourcing directly from mills and factories across the world
  • An effective communicator who is excited about taking on a highly collaborative, cross functional role
  • Commercially savvy, with excellent negotiation skills. A natural trader who is able to juggle and trade-off competing priorities to achieve a strong outcome
  • Deeply analytical, with a passion for using data to analyze performance and make decisions
  • Some exposure to eCommerce and what it takes to be commercially successful online
  • Experience within the crafts market is desirable, but not essential
